BOSS and beatboxing have a synergistic relationship—a bond that continues to deepen over time. Loop Stations are beloved by the genre’s practitioners, and the BOSS RC-505 has become the industry standard for beatboxers everywhere. Swissbeatbox serves as an online home for the movement, showcasing beatboxing videos from artists across the globe. Beatboxer extraordinaire Rythmind demonstrates how he created his track “Back to the Underground” using the RC-505mkII.

Prolific Beats

Loïc Barcourt, aka Rythmind, is a French beatboxer and looper. Originally from Saint-Raphaël, he is a current member of the acclaimed Toulouse-based beatbox crew Berywam. A dynamic live presence, the typical Rythmind set drips with his trademark combination of attitude and precision. The prolific performer continues to battle, notching up wins at prestigious competitions including first place Loop Station at the Grand Beatbox Battle 2019 in Warsaw, Poland.

Heading Underground

Full of push-pull percussive twists and syncopated synths, the addictive pulse of “Back to the Underground” certainly lives up to its creator’s moniker. For the duration of the track’s three-minute-fifty-eight-second running time, Rythmind takes the listener on a dark sonic exploration. The murky, graffiti-filled underworld set underlines the noirish mood. In his tutorial video, the artist explains how he uses “Power Drive so it makes the melody very powerful” as well as how to set up the song’s gargantuan drops.
