BOSS and beatboxing have a synergistic relationship—a bond that continues to deepen over time. Loop Stations are beloved by the genre’s practitioners, and the BOSS RC-505 has become the industry standard for beatboxers everywhere. Swissbeatbox serves as an online home for the movement, showcasing beatboxing videos from artists across the globe. Enigmatic beatboxing behemoth Inkie demonstrates how he created his track “Switcher” using the RC-505mkII.

Drawing and Drops

Inkie, born Yuri Obukhov, is a Russian beatboxer and looper with a distinctive visual style and approach to his art form. Inspired to pursue his passion by RoxorLoops and Beardyman, Inkie has gone on to take home awards from the Multiverse Beatbox Battle 2019, Grand Beatbox Battle 2019, and other competitions. He describes himself as “not only a beatboxer but also an electronic music producer” and admits that he is “in love with strange noises and music.” And his mysterious moniker? As a young person, Inkie loved to draw using ink.

"I'm not only a beatboxer but also an electronic music producer, so I am really in love with strange noises and music."

Science Friction

Boasting 8-bit style noises and foreboding bass in equal measure, “Switcher” keeps listeners on their toes. A futuristic sci-fi aesthetic even permeates the song’s video, with neon lights bathing Inkie in an eerie glow. In his video tutorial, Inkie breaks down the layered drops step by step, showing how he built the alien soundscape. He also dives into what he calls the “really strange stuff happening” at the tail end of the track.

"A futuristic sci-fi aesthetic permeates the track and its video, with neon lights bathing Inkie in an eerie glow."

A Global Beatboxing Family

As part of the Swissbeatbox crew, aficionados consider Inkie among the crème de la crème of international beatboxers. The community is rich with talent, and they’re willing to share their skills.
